Artist's Statement
Some of my first memories are of my next door neighbor’s studio in the Redwood City hills in California. I remember standing in his studio in awe of his work. I was three. His name was Pierre Signa. He would pack up his old pick-up truck and disappear for days, camping and painting the California coastline along Highway One. To this day, the smell of turpentine, linseed oil, and paint sweeps me back to that room filled with easels, paintings, and a kind old Frenchman. I love those smells. We moved, and he is gone. I have never been able to find his work. I guess he never “made it”, but to me he will always be a master painter. Someone should have written his bio. I believe this was the “seed” that started me on my artistic journey. I am primarily self taught but have dabbled in “artistic” education off and on most of my life. Who knows what inspires us? I am getting a late start, but stay tuned. |
